Uncovering The Most Compelling Story Behind Your Story…

This week I watched a nely released film with one of my favourite actors. It was SCI and the trailer looked amazing. They had a 45 million budget. Frankly, it was one of the worst films I have ever sat through forever. Why? the story was just not there. The bit of story that was there had no beginning, no middle and definitely no end. It was truly terrible!

I don’t care who is in there and how much they spend on sets of effects if there isn’t a story it’s a fail.

I’m sure you’ll agree that everyone loves a good story in a film. Once upon a time, stories were the key to opening any door - even the door of the heart. More than ever before people want to be part of a story.

Your tribe, your fans or your cinema audience love hearing your interesting stories. But they demand engaging, revealing, tragic and triumphant stories. They want to know who you are, why you are and even why you exist. That is what a good story does. It uncovers, reveals and ultimately engages readers or watchers.

Storytelling Example: Once Upon a Time - The Mexican

In a town with well over 30 coffee shops, how do you stand out, create loyalty, and build fans through your story?

My film client Justin wanted to tell his story. After an interview, I uncovered things in his story that no one knew.

  • His life journey from Mexico to England.

  • His reason for arriving in this town - is Altrincham.

  • Why his shop is the way his shop is?

  • How and why he roasts his beans every day at 4 am?

A Real Human Story Behind The Story People Already Knew.

Recently my team and I completed the most magnificent story-driven film - THE CURATOR for the most famous Altrincham Market.

The client has the biggest, the most talked about, and most copied artisan markets and food halls in Europe. They are based in Altrincham where I live, near Manchester. They are Altrincham or Alty Market and Market House.

I spent two days face-to-face interviewing, and three days and a half days filming with my crew. The volume of stories filled over 1T of space. That is around 15 hours of film.

After 8-months of finding the story, producing and then endlessly editing the film, I then delivered an engaging, interesting, unknown, powerful, story-driven film that shared the bigger story and purpose behind their story. The client loved it. I loved it. Their audience loved it.

The film is called The Curator. I named it this because his story was not the story the public knew. The story behind the story was a story about the curation of a market hall, its people and ultimately the regeneration of a town in Cheshire named Altrincham.

That is exactly the type of story you need for your organisation. The real story behind the story.
